On April 22, 1928 Norbert was the 5th child born to Anton & Margaret Michels. He grew up on the family farm SE of Stacyville. At the age of 2 he became deaf, with the help of his family he gained his confidence and learned to lip read and went to school to graduate in 1947 from Visitation Catholic High School in Stacyville. Norbie returned home to Stacyville in 1990 and purchased his home, where he had beautiful flower gardens, fruit & vegetable gardens. He enjoyed baking and collecting new recipes. He made the best Strawberry Pies and Crazy Cake! Woodworking projects became one of his favorite activities, along with playing card games, board games, puzzles and word searches. He also enjoyed going to musicals, which if a ride was needed he would pick up many passengers. Norbie belonged to Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, and a bowling team.
