Donna Mae Folmer, age 90, of Osage, passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side, Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar. Visitation is from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Champion Funeral Home. Following the funeral service, cremation will take place with inurnment at a later date. Donna was born August 7, 1930 in Rudd, Iowa to Samuel Vern and Alma Marie (Bornstein) Roberts. She had one brother Vern, and two sisters Marie and Irene. Donna graduated from Rudd High School in 1949. During her high school years, she enjoyed being a majorette in the band. Donna married Arthur Shoars on September 4, 1949. From that union two children were born, Michael Vern and Connie Marie. During her union with Art, she worked at Stan's Drive Inn and enjoyed working on their farm in Orchard, Iowa. She would talk about a horse she had called Muppet. That union dissolved in 1974. During her years as a single woman, she worked at Winnebago and looked forward to and enjoyed becoming and Grandmother. Donna met Fabian Folmer, and two years later they were married on February 14, 1977. During this union Donna discovered the love of golf. They enjoyed golfing together frequently. Donna even achieved making a hole in one... Twice. Family jokes about how Donna and Fabe would go through withdrawals from not playing when family were visiting them. Donna and Fabe lived a very full and happy life together. Donna enjoyed helping Fabe with his accounting business. Throughout their years together, they were lucky to have the opportunity to move around and experience life in different areas. They lived in Denver, Colorado, Houston, Texas, Blue Springs, Missouri, and back to Colorado in Loveland. Wanting to be closer to family is what brought them to Osage, Iowa for the rest of their years. The family have vivid memories moving them to Iowa in January with 30 below weather. Donna was a very spirited person with lots of stories to tell, and she loved to them in a very entertaining way. She always had a mischievous spark in her eyes, was very quick witted and was a joy to be around. Your time with Donna was never dull. It was full of sharked laughter, jokes and an abundance of love. She was quick with a smile and a hug. She loved the time she spent with her family, that she adored and cherished. She called all of the grand and great grandchildren her "kids". Donna liked to collect birdhouses and enjoyed watching the birds flutter around her bird feeders. Occasionally, she would do some knitting. Donna was an avid card player and her game of choice was 500, and was involved in Red Hatters club for a few years. Donna is survived by her daughter, Connie Whitten and daughter-in-law Deanna Shoars; Grandchildren, Chad (Kate) Shoars, Jeremy (Lisa) Arickx, Chris (Lisa) Shoars, Jeffery (Suzy) Whitten, and Jennifer (Taner) Simonis; Great Grandchildren, Nicolas Shoars, Natalie Shoars, Lily Whitten, Aiden Arickx, Kylah Shoars, Josephine Shoars, Alex Arickx, and Jaxon Simonis; three Step-Great Grandchildren; Nicholas Lenz, Jasmin McKenna, and Ellen Lenz.and one Great-Great Grandchild Kennedy Shoars.
