Robert Detmering passed away on April 23, 2024 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center due to complications of congestive heart failure and a short illness with his family at his bedside. Robert was born June 22, 1948 to Marjorie (Mickelson) Detmering and Robert Eugene Detmering, SR in Ft. Dodge, IA. His parents later divorced, and his mother married Warren Whipple who raised Bob and his sister Becky as his own the rest of his life. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1966. Bob drove semi truck all his life, and met the love of his life Jill Brinkman in Ft. Dodge, IA and they married May 7, 1977. They had 2 children, Judith Ann and Robert Eugene, III. Bob and Jill moved to Osage, IA in 1987 and lived the rest of his life in Osage. Bob continued to drive semi truck until the year before his passing, he loved to travel and see the USA, claiming to have driven over 6 million miles. He was also interested in classic cars, belonging to Modifiers Car Club in Humboldt, IA. Bob loved to talk….and oh could he talk. Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert Detmering, Sr., his infant sister Judith Anne Detmering, his step-father Warren Whipple, and many uncles, aunts, and other family members. He is survived by his wife Jill Detmering of Osage, his 99 year old mother Marjorie Whipple of Humboldt, sister Becky Gerritson of Sioux City; daughter Judi (Steve) Black of Des Moines and grandson Matthew (Michaela Butner) Detmering of Osage; son Rob Detmering III of Cedar Falls and granddaughter Ryan (Carter Morey) Detmering of Iowa; nephew Brandon Risetter and family. Per Bob’s wishes he has been cremated and there will be a small family service at a later date. Memorials can be sent to wife, Jill Detmering.
