Arlene I. Brown, age 94, of Osage, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Arlene Isabella Mayer was born on March 1, 1930, in Stacyville, Iowa, to Ernest and Mathilda (Loecher) Mayer. She graduated from Stacyville High School in 1947. On November 24, 1951, Arlene was united in marriage to Eugene W. Brown at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. The couple was married 43 years before he died in 1994. Arlene worked in the Mitchell County Treasurer’s Office for 46 years and was the Mitchell County Treasurer for 25 of those years. Arlene loved traveling in her early retirement years and was an avid birdwatcher. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, quilting, crocheting, and playing cards and games. Arlene was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Women’s Guild, Wa Tan Ye, and the Iowa Republican Party. Arlene is survived by her children, Laurie Anhorn of Lakeville, Minnesota, Lynn Brown of Osage, Leanne Bentten of Osage, and Linda Ellis of Eagan, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey Anhorn, Melanie Anhorn, Audra (Jason) Roll, Emmalea Brown, Ethan Brown, Maggi Jo Brown, Jessica Knoke, Caitlin (Cody) Forburger, Conner Lifka, Annika Ellis; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Mayer; brother-in-law, LaVerne Mullenbach; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her parents, Ernest and Mathilda; infant son, John; brothers, Gene (Marjorie) Mayer, Vernon (Imelda) Mayer, and Glen Mayer; parents-in-law, Arnold and Verna Brown; siblings-in-law, Charles Brown, Melvin and Shirley Heimer, and Bonnie Mullenbach; and granddaughter, Jodi Oulman. The Mass of Christian Burial for Arlene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Home, Osage. Champion Funeral Home of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements.
