March 12, 1933 - December 12, 2024
Margie (Bratrud) Davis died on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Mercy One Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa. Margie Frances was born on March 12, 1933, in Northwood, Iowa to Mikkel and Frances (Van Hooser) Bratrud in a house built by her father, a carpenter in Northwood and the surrounding area. Margie was baptized at the First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed telling the story of meeting her future husband when she worked as an usher at the movie theater. Norman Davis would come to the show every Saturday night with a group of his friends. After completing ninth grade, and just two weeks after her confirmation at First Lutheran Church, she married Norman on June 20, 1948. Her parents insisted on a large wedding because her older sister, Betty, had eloped. The young couple lived with Norman's parents, Jason and Anna Davis, in rural London until their parents helped them build a house on the Davis farm. Margie was creative and known for flower arranging, gardening, and enjoyed all manner of crafts, but she found her real passion when she began to paint, eventually teaching painting classes and selling her paintings locally. She was very active in Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher, in the church circles, Bible studies, and greatly enjoyed singing in the choir and sang in local events as part of the church trio. She and Norman both loved to play cards throughout their lives, and had many dear, lifelong friends. Norman and Margie moved to Northwood in 2006 to a house built by Norman and his grandchildren. Norman passed away on November 10, 2019, after a life of farming and carpentry. They had been married 71 years. Margie is survived by four children, Glen (Janet) Davis, Susan (Steve) Steele, Gene (Cindy) Davis, and Sandra (Luis) Gonzalez; as well as 12 grandchildren, Jason (Sarah), Kip (Sarah), Gaven (Taya) Davis; Matthew, Mikkel (Kristin) Schmidt, Rachel (Tyson) Pederson; Justin (Jaime), Garrett (Sydney) Davis, Kailey (Garret) Weber; Lauren, Kelvin, Amado (Georgie) Gonzalez. She is further survived by three step-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Drew (Kylie) Steele and Jessica (Mitch) Hanson; 22 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy for Margie. Preceding her in death were her parents, Mikkel and Frances; one grandson, Adam Davis; one great-granddaughter, Rae Ann Davis; her sister, Betty Cook; and her brother, Arnold Bratrud. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the London Deer Creek Cemetery Association. Schroeder-Hoff Funeral Home of Northwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
