Galen Lee Koehn, 72, died June 4, 2021 at Stacyville Community Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021 at Church of God in Christ Mennonite Heartland Congregation, McIntire with Pastor Randall Esau officiating. Visitation and Memories will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Church of God in Christ Mennonite Heartland Congregation. Burial will take place at Wayne Township Cemetery, McIntire. Our Father, Husband and Grandfather, Galen Lee Koehn, was born to Virgil and Pauline (Nightingale) Koehn on February 20, 1949. The Angels carried dad away in the early morning hours of June 4, 2021, reaching the age of 72 years. Dad was a resident of the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Dad's growing up years were in Garden City Kansas where he received his formal education. At the tender age of 12 Dad answered God's call to become His Child. He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 17, 1961, by his Uncle, Minister Eli Nightingale. The Faith was Precious to Dad, helping him to meet life's disappointments and discouragements with a determination to Gain Heaven. Dad found his companion in our Mother, Vera Koehn. They were married February 18, 1968 by Uncle, Minister Eli Nightingale at Cimarron, Kansas sharing life's joys and sorrows for 53 years. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. Dad was a man of many talents providing for the family with a variety of occupations. Working at Warner Ranch with mixing feed ration and delivery. Working in carpentry with lifelong friend Lloyd Goosen in Greensburg, Kansas. In later years owning and operating Picturesque Lawn Care. In 2007 folks felt the open door to move closer to family relocating North to Iowa becoming part of the Heartland Congregation and Stacyville Community. Dad's outgoing and helpful personality served him in the community. Dad enjoyed nature and in his younger years enjoyed hunting and fishing. We as a family remember fishing trips together, Dad singing, tinkering in his woodworking shop and working on old pickups. Family times were very special to Dad. Those left to cherish memories are his loving wife, Vera; sons, Keith of Montezuma Kansas; James of Abilene, Kansas; Samuel and Sylvia, of Cimarron, Kansas; two daughters, Marsha and Brian Smith; Mashala and Norman Koehn both of Stacyville,Iowa and nineteen cherished grandchildren; two brothers, Delano and Charlotte Koehn, Dodge City, Kansas; Leland and Glenda Koehn of Garden City, Kansas; five brother-in-laws and three sister-n-laws. Preceding him in death is one infant son, one daughter-in-law, his parents, one sister; his parents-in-law and two sister-n-laws.
