June 6, 1963 - January 18, 2025
Ricky (Rick) James Bremer, age 61, of Floyd, Iowa passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at MercyOne in Mason City, Iowa after a long illness. His loving daughters were with him. Rick was born on June 6, 1963, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Jim and Kay Bremer. He graduated from Riceville High School in 1982. He married Lynn Olson in 1984. They welcomed three children, daughters Stacey and Stephanie and son Eric. Rick and Lynn later divorced. Rick worked as a welder, mechanic and all around get it done guy for Dan Freeman and Scharper Services before he became employed by Fox River Mills as a production supervisor and later Featherlite trailers where he retired as a master welder and line supervisor. Rick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He treated these activities with utmost respect. Bow hunting and bird hunting with his dogs were especially close to his heart. Fishing with the kids when they were young, either on the Cedar River where he lived or at the quarry was a frequent activity he enjoyed. He was a conservationist and partnered with Iowa DNR Forestry service to plant hundreds of trees on his land that would provide habitat for wildlife. Growing a garden, and with the hottest peppers that he could stand, was something he enjoyed as well as grilling, storytelling, and pulling pranks on his family and friends. He liked to ride motorcycles, three wheelers, and go fast in cars when he was young. Although illness prevented Rick from getting to the outdoors he loved, the outdoors came to him. Deer would come to his patio door and the turkeys would come through the yard. A particular cardinal would peck at his window and a hummingbird built her nest at the corner of his kitchen window. The neighbor dog Scout would visit him for a handout and some quality time on his couch. All of this brought him great joy. His granddaughters Kyrah and Autumn were especially close to him, and he looked forward to their visits. He would often help Kyrah with her homework and would poke fun with Autumn. Rick is survived by his two daughters, Stacey Bremer of Osage, IA and Stephanie Bremer (Corey Schmidt) of Rudd, IA; son Eric of Osage, IA; six grandchildren, Kyrah and Autumn Fisher; Emily, Benson, Katherine, William Bremer; two sisters, Vicky (Jim) Lang of Pflugerville, TX; Susan (Dennis) Zweibohmer of North Washington, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Kay Bremer; grandparents, Delbert and Naomi Anderson and Armold and Gladys Bremer. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday February 1, 2025, at the Osage Public Safety Center located at 432 Main St Osage, IA 50461 starting at 1pm.
