Sharlene Ida Stoddard was born March 25, 1949 to Glenn M. And Eldora (Siebrecht) Stoddard of Northwood, Iowa. She died on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Mercy One Emergency Room, Mason City, Iowa. In 1967, Shar graduated from Northwood Kensett High School and was Salutatorian of her class. In 1969, she graduated from North Iowa Are Community College and in 1971 she graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. In Accounting. She immediately started working as a bookkeeper for Glenn Tenold Insurance, which later became Worth Mutual Insurance. She retired in 2014 after 43 years of employment. Sharlene lived in Northwood her whole life and was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church and the Lydia Circle. Shar had a deep passion for genealogy and history. In 1981 she became a member of the Helen Hinman Dwelle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Northwood, Iowa, serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Historian and Media Chair. She was also a member of the North Central Iowa Genealogical Society. She was a co-founder with Lois Hogen of the Sunset Rest Cemetery Walk, a Founder's Day event. She took numerous trips to Salt Lake City and Washington, D.C. To research her family history. In 1987, Shar and her cousin Lew Klinge, took a 3-week genealogy trip to West and East Germany, a high point in her family history research avocation. In 1995, Shar wrote and published a book on her Stoddard ancestors, "Family of Wells and Eunice Stoddard". She loved to research history and wrote numerous articles for local newspapers. Shar loved to read as much as she loved to research. She always had a book in her hand and another one in her bag. She loved mysteries, romance and historical fiction. When she wasn't reading, she loved to listen to Dixieland Jazz. She especially loved the Raiders of the Lost Art and Barbary Coast Dixieland Band. For many summers she drove to wherever they were playing, including numerous trips to the Minnesota State Fair with her sister Glenda. Sharlene is survived by her sister Glenda Kay Huston and her husband Hugh of Minneapolis, MN and cousins Diane (Stoddard) Johnston, Dennis Stoddard, Darrell Stoddard, Donnie Stoddard, Judy (Noe) Bolla, Ruby (Anderson) Rippeto, Francene (Siebrecht) Lee and Pam (Siebrecht) Williamson and many good friends. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Glenn and Eldora Stoddard. The family is especially grateful to Lois Hogen for her many years of friendship and companionship with Sharlene. Memorial donations can be made to the Helen Hinman Dwelle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Northwood, Iowa c/o Colleen Lawler, 4986 Mockingbird Avenue, Northwood, IA 50459.
