Gary Lee Fossey Gary Fossey, age 66, of Saint Ansgar, Iowa, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. Gary was born October 14, 1957, to Leo and Joan (Bridgeman) Fossey in Austin, Minnesota. Gary graduated from Saint Ansgar High School in 1976. While in high school his passion was playing football and working for the Fossey Garage in Toeterville. Following high school, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Mayer) in 1977. This union brought the birth of their son, Bryan, in 1982. Gary enjoyed farming with his father and brothers, snowmobiling, softball, and tractor pulling with Bryan. Gary’s jobs included working for the Toeterville Elevator, Northwood John Deere, and Mitchell County Secondary Roads. After retiring from Mitchell County Secondary Roads, Gary returned to his love of farming by helping his good friend, Mark Patterson. He also enjoyed hauling grain for local farmers, in his free time. Gary is survived by his long-time partner, Barbara Fossey, son Bryan and wife Cassie Fossey, grandsons Cole Monson and Tucker Fossey, sister Lori Hatten and partner Dene Hawswirth, sister Lana Blaser and husband Jim Blaser, brother Joel and wife Connie Fossey. In-laws Dee Mayer, Tom and wife Bev Mayer, Joyce Welch, Tony and wife Lori Mayer, Mary and husband Paul Brown, sister-in-law Cindy Flugge and husband Russ. He was loved by many nephews, nieces, and extended family members. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Joan Fossey, brother Neal Fossey, and grandson Barrett Fossey. Gary had a love for his community from donating picnic tables, and plowing snow, to lending a helping hand wherever it was needed. He was a very caring and boisterous force in the lives of those who knew him. He was a compassionate and caring man with a huge heart for helping anyone he could. He will be missed by many. Gary knew no strangers; just friends that he hadn’t met yet. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in St Ansgar, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:30 am, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Mona, Iowa. A light luncheon will follow the service. The family is requesting attendees to the service wear a black shirt and blue jeans to honor the memory of Gary.

Gary always had time to talk. In one of my last discussions with him, he spoke of Halloween trick and treating. He told me about the amount of candy he handed out. He also told me how much he loved seeing all children. He said if you hand out the good stuff they keep coming back year after year. He will be missed.
