Michael Mark Metz Sr., age 73, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Osage, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Michael was born on August 6, 1951, in Osage, Iowa to John and June (Clyde) Metz. After graduating high school, Michael served in the Marines before marrying Janie Penfold. Throughout his life, he worked as a boat captain, navigating commercial charters, oil supply vessels, and even scaling towers with expertise and precision. Mike was a man who lived life to the fullest, finding joy in many things, whether he was tinkering with his hot rods, fishing in the Louisiana Bayou or rocking out to his favorite tunes, he always knew how to have a good time. His love for his dogs, especially his loyal companion Friday, was unmatched. He was an avid pool player, Mike's vibrant spirit brought warmth and laughter to all who knew him. He took great pride in his children and loved them so very much. Michael is survived by his children, Nikole (Eric) Gast of Nora Springs, IA, Michelle Smith of Osage, IA, Michael (Jenn) Metz of Rapid City, SD, Brad (Katherine) Dunshee of Osage, IA, Shanna (Slater) Elza of Amarillo, TX, and a son-in-law Jon Smith; grandchildren, Luke Huebshch, Erica, and Cael Gast, Wesley, Ella, Janie, and Finn Smith, Piper, Sheriff, Adeline Metz, Isacc (dog), and Sterling Elza; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Jameson; siblings, John (Joanne) Metz, Shane (Mary) Metz, Tammy (Jo) Washington, Logan Metz, and his dog Friday. He is preceded in death by his wife Janie and his parents John and June. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage, Iowa.
