Raymond Leroy Borcherding, Herman and Anna's sixth child, was born October 6th 1923 on the Kline farm in Section 8, Glidden Township, Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized October 28th 1923 at Peace Lutheran Church, Glidden Iowa. The family moved to a farm in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa in March of 1934. He attended rural Township Schools in Carroll and Worth Counties through the 8th grade. Raymond was confirmed May 22nd 1938 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa. He met Dallas Marie Hansen at the Worth County Fair. They were married at her parent's home in Otranto Township on an icy Dec 23rd 1944, where they lived for the first couple years. They farmed with her father until moving to their own farm in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa where they farmed for 23 years. In 1967 they moved their farming operation to a farm they purchased in St. Ansgar Township, Mitchell County, but resided in St. Ansgar due to Dallas' health. They moved out to a new house they built on the farm in 1974, where they resided until moving to Apple Valley Assisted Living in Osage a few years before Dallas passed away January 9, 2010. Raymond was very active initially in the Deer Creek Lutheran Church and then First Lutheran Church after moving to St. Ansgar. He performed in a 1948 Meltonville Community Club play "Grandpa's Twin Sister" as Grandpa Hatcher, a cantankerous old man. After the play Raymond and Dallas proceeded to have two sets of identical twins!! When he wasn't busy farming, raising a few head of cattle and many litters of pigs he enjoyed Pheasant hunting with his cousins from McGregor, Fox hunting with his son's and what has become the Borcherding Annual Fishing Trip to Bowen's Resort on Lake Winnebagosh with his son's and grandson's. Those thankful for sharing in his life are sons Donald (Pat) of Rochester, Minn., Michael (Janet) of St. Ansgar, Marvin (Sheri) of Emmons, Minn., daughters Linda (Larry) Bol of Valparaiso, Ind., Marsha (Steve) Burd of Fennville, Mich., 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
