Lucille Kathlyn (Grebner) Knutson was born in Sturgis, SD to parents William and Mary (Keffeler) Grebner on December 10, 1926. She passed away September 26, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings, and her husband, Orray Knutson. Lucille (Lucy as she was known) met Orray Knutson at a dance in Rapid City, SD, where he was stationed in the Army Air Corps. They married and returned to St. Ansgar, where they eventually settled on the family farm. There, they both worked hard and gave their family a good life. Orray and Lucy were married for 66 years, until his death in 2012. Lucy was an intelligent woman, with many artistic and practical talents. She was a busy wife and mother, who made time for gardening, sewing, stained-glass work, and teaching catechism. She was a published author, and a member of the St. Ansgar Legion Auxillary for nearly 50 years. She also served St. Ansgar as Postmaster for over 20 years. Lucy is survived by 6 children: Mary (Randy) Navratil, of Story City, Iowa; Ruth (Scott) Ulland, of Austin, Minnesota; Carol (Mark) Callahan, of Center Point, Iowa; Lee Soma of Sumner, Iowa, and Ken (Dawn) Knutson on the family century farm in St. Ansgar, Iowa, and Lois (Ross) Whitlock, of Hampton, Virginia. She also has 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, Iowa with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 30 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Homes in St. Ansgar. Following, burial will be at the First Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.
