Janet Clair Dahlby, age 78, of Northwood, IA, died Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills, IA, surrounded by her family. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Schroeder Funeral Home, Northwood, with burial following at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Schroeder Funeral Home. After the service and Jan’s burial, please join the family for a meal and fellowship at Signature’s Supper Club in Northwood. Jan was born on December 24, 1945, in Mason City, IA, to C. Donald Gullickson and Cleo Marian (Juhl) Gullickson. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1963 and spent a year at Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, IA. She worked for Banker’s Life Company in Mason City, then was a homemaker/farm wife for many years before returning to work at Principal Financial Group in Mason City, for 23 years. Jan married Roger Wayne Dahlby in Northwood, IA, on September 25, 1965. They were blessed to celebrate 58 anniversaries together, and to this union two children were born, Darin and Anne. Roger and Jan first met at a lutefisk supper at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Four months later, Roger and his best friend dressed up in suits to attend a Lenten service that Jan would attend, and the rest, as they say, is history. They made their home and farmed just outside Northwood. After retirement, Roger and Jan enjoyed several winters in Arizona where they enjoyed time with good friends and family. Over the years, Jan found enjoyment in church and church activities, and in dear friends, but her greatest enjoyment was found in her faith and her family whom she loved so much. Her fondness for Snoopy was known to many and was often found in greeting cards she sent. She is survived by her husband, Roger; their two children: Darin (Teri) Dahlby of Northwood, and Anne (Jason) Lundquist of Mason City; four grandchildren: Jami (Cody) Tolzmann and Casey Dahlby of Northwood, Kendall Olson of Mason City, and Derek Olson of Sneads Ferry, NC; one great-grandchild: Cash Tolzmann; brother-in-law: Richard Tuttle; and sisters-in-law: Gail (Donovan) Dahlby, Marian (Dahlby) Iverson, Diane (Charles) Dahlby, Eileen and Donna Dahlby; and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: C. Donald and Cleo Gullickson; her sisters: Donna Tuttle and Anne Cooper; Roger’s parents: Daniel and Eleanor Dahlby; brother’s-in-law: Donovan Dahlby, Jim Iverson, Richard Dahlby, and Charles Dahlby. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Roger & family: Jan was my oh, so loyal, friend for all these years. Our connection began at Principal, yet we found you and Ron already knew each other from the Army Reserves. We shared our lives through the growing-up years of our children, celebrating special occasions, and, yes, crying together in challenging times. She was my friend through it all, and I loved her for it. I'm so very thankful I was able to see Jan in July last year. I left her that day with a full heart, knowing Jesus was ever present in her journey. Roger, thank you for being Jan's rock in the difficult road she was on for the last few years....for putting your love into action. I read that "grief is love with nowhere to go"....know our love is with you and your family...our hearts are hugging yours always. Val & Ron Trca
