Patricia Sue Tiffany Hinman passed away after a lengthy illness on September 24, 2024, in McKinney, TX, where she had resided the last 14 years. Pat was born May 9, 1943, to Jessie Vonnie (Davisson) and Howard Milton Tiffany in Dumont, Iowa. She attended Chapin, Iowa, community schools until her senior year, when her school-teacher mother was forced to change teaching jobs because of school consolidation. They moved to Mondamin, Iowa, where Jessie taught for one year and Pat graduated with the class of 1961. Pat graduated from Wartburg College with a business education degree and later obtained a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Pat was a dedicated teacher, starting her career in Gilbert, Iowa, for two years, and retiring 43 years later from Saint Ansgar High School. She was known as a teacher who had high expectations for her students, and many secretaries, accountants, and business employees expressed high praise and gratitude later for her help (and prodding) in raising their skill levels and knowledge. Her career took her from manual typewriters and teaching shorthand to writing complicated formulas on spreadsheets and other advanced computer skills. In 1968, she married David Hinman, a fellow teacher at the school and they were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer Miller of McKinney, TX, and Rachel Hinman of San Francisco, CA. The blessings continued with the arrival of two grandchildren, Graham Miller and Genevieve Miller. Pat was an accomplished organist and member of the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church. In addition to music, she enjoyed gardening, counted cross-stitch, and making her home beautiful at Christmas time. She was preceded in death by her father in 1951 and her mother in 1997. A memorial service for Pat will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Ansgar United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Hinman was my Homeroom teacher while at St. Ansgar High. She did set a high bar for education and behavior. That was a good bar to achieve in HS and College. I went to U of Iowa for undergrad and medical school. I was a Medical Oncologist and Hematologist for 35 years. Mrs. Hinman was tough but fair. That was what we needed as we began our academic careers. My sympathies to your family. Douglas Reding MD MPH FACP Class of 1973

My deepest sympathy Dave, to you and your family. Over the years I have thought about Mrs. Hinman many times. She was a dedicated teacher who expected the best out of her students, and did not just let them slide by. I learned a lot from her, and appreciated her. Cherish your fond memories and hold them dear. Take care and God’s blessings to you all.
