Kenneth Charles Duenow passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa on December 5, 2020. Kenneth, age 100, was born on February 11, 1920, to Carl and Edna Duenow and was the 3rd oldest of eight children. Kenneth graduated high school in 1937 from St. Ansgar. He courted and married Shirley (Palmer) Duenow on September 27, 1941. Kenneth and Shirley had 1 daughter, Judy (Duenow) Low, who was the apple of her father's eye. Prior to meeting Shirley, Kenneth attended barber school in Minneapolis, Minnesota; however, circumstances changed and he returned to Iowa, met his wife and began farming. Kenneth was a farmer for many years in both the rural communities of Osage and St. Ansgar, Iowa. He was a kind soul and a devoted husband. Kenneth supported and participated in many of Shirley's endeavors including many flower shows, garden club, and 4-H activities. He and Shirley enjoyed traveling across the US to visit various relatives and friends and were able to visit all 50 states. Together, they enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with friends locally and they attended just about every sporting and singing event their grandchildren were ever a participant in. Kenneth loved horses and spent his last years of farming on the Duenow family farm east of St. Ansgar. They retired from the farm to St. Ansgar in 1984. Kenneth has been a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his daughter, Judith, parents, Carl and Edna, his brothers Wayne, Merlyn, Carl and John, and his sisters, Shirley and Eleanor. Kenneth is survived by his: three grandchildren, Daniel (Ron) Low of Colorado Springs, CO, Laurel (Spencer) Feldt of Osceola, WI, and Kari (Andy) Burbach of Cedar Rapids; IA, his son-in-law, David Low; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel Feldt, Jack Feldt, Morgan Feldt and Hailey Burbach; and by a great-great-grandson, Kaden Burbach. He is also survived by his one remaining sibling, Margaret Runtsch and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, IA on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in the name of Kenneth Duenow to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Good Samaritan Society, both located in St. Ansgar, IA. His family would like to thank the nurses and aides at the Good Samaritan Society for being kind and providing care to Kenneth over the last years of his life and for being there to comfort him in the end.
