February 19, 1941 - March 15, 2021
Jack Van Horn, age 80, died at home on March 15, 2021 after his battle with cancer. Visitation will be held at Schroeder Funeral Homes in Northwood, Iowa on Friday, March 26th from 5pm-7pm and a service will be held on Saturday, March 27th at 2pm. Jack was born on February 19, 1941 at home in Kensett, IA, the son of Harley and Lucille Van Horn. He married Diane Gordon on September 1, 1962 and became a long-time resident of Northwood. Jack was a hardworking handy man and always wanted to lend his helping hand – he was a "jack-of-all-trades". He was a truck driver for 50 years and spent most of his retirement out at Sorbo Campground where he maintained the land and built strong relationships with the campers. He looked forward to every December where he would put on his big red suit and act as the town Santa Claus. He was also quite the jokester and enjoyed making those in his presence smile. His heart grew softer with each new grandchild and completely melted when his six great-grandchildren were born. He dedicated his life to his family and will be greatly missed by them all. Survivors include his daughter Rebecca Van Horn of Northwood, IA, son Robert Van Horn of Albertville, MN, brother Ben (Eva) Van Horn of Columbus, WI, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Lucille Van Horn, his loving wife Diane Van Horn, daughter Debra Johann, sisters Anita Madsen, Donna Caldwell, Maxine Colstrup, Mary Lou Van Horn, and brother Darrell Van Horn.
