September 28, 1947 - November 19, 2024
Janet Ann Rohne, age 77, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed peacefully away on November 19, 2024, after a courageous, one year battle with lung cancer. Janet was born on September 28, 1947, in Durand, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Cyril Rustad and Pauline Bauer. She moved to Austin, Minnesota, at the age of nine months when her parents divorced. Janet graduated from Central High School, now known as Austin High, in 1965. She was nicknamed “Rusty” because of her beautiful red hair. Janet became the proud mother of four children and later moved to St. Ansgar, Iowa. This is where she raised her family. She had fond memories of picnics of peanut butter sandwiches and chocolate milk with her children on the farm where they lived. Janet lovingly called her children her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. In 1985, Janet graduated from Riverland College with a degree in nursing. She originally became a licensed practical nurse and later went on to continue her education to become a registered nurse in 1992. She was very proud of her induction into the academic sorority, Phi Theta Kappa. Janet worked at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota, for ten years. She then went on to work in the home health field before becoming a CNA supervisor and mentor at St. Mark’s Nursing Home in Austin in 1993. Janet loved working in the nursing home setting and found that working in the geriatrics area was her niche. She loved helping the elderly and delighted in making their lives better. Janet also enjoyed training CNA’s during her time at St. Mark’s. In addition, Janet worked for Riverland College as a CNA instructor for twelve years. She developed lasting friendships with many of the people that she worked with. Janet shared the last two years of her life with her partner, Charles Feldt. Charlie was the love of her life, and they were able to share many happy moments together. They enjoyed taking rides on Charlie’s Ranger and spending time at the pond on Charlie’s farm. She was so thankful for the comfort and support that Charlie provided, especially during her battle with cancer. She was also thankful for the support from her children and Charlie’s family. They helped her to put one foot in front of the other in the past year, in times of both joy and sadness. She was also thankful for the many friends that prayed for her and supported her in the past year. Janet is survived by her partner, Charlie Feldt, St. Ansgar, IA. She is also survived by her four children and their families. They include her daughter, Kelly (Terry) Patterson, St. Ansgar, IA; sons, Patrick (Stephanie) Howe, Highlands Ranch, CO, Harold (Andrea) Howe, Redfield, IA and Kenneth (Robin) Howe, Floyd, IA; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Sherry, Connie, and Nina Bush; Charlie’s children, Sherry (Mike) Marr, Al (Denise) Feldt, and Ray Feldt; along with Charlie’s two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril Rustad and Pauline Bush; grandson, Jordan Howe; and sisters, June Kittleson and Georgette Bush. A private celebration of life for Janet will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the New Beginnings House of Hope shelter for women and children in Cerro Gordo County (202 1st Street NW, Mason City, Iowa 50401), or Operation Second Chance, a program for disabled veterans (20251 Century Blvd., Suite 130, Germantown, MD 20874.)
