November 6, 1932 - November 11, 2024
Richard Edwin Duncomb, age 92, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar. Richard was born on November 6, 1932, in Riceville, Iowa, to Ralph and Edith (Powell) Duncomb. He lived in Mitchell County his entire life except for his two years of military service in Korea. Richard graduated from Mitchell High School in 1951. After graduation, he began farming with his father and later, his brother. Richard served our country in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. On the 50th anniversary of the end of the Korean War in 2003, Richard was offered the opportunity to fly back to South Korea for a memorial flight. Following his discharge, he continued farming until he was 61; this was when he began a new career in construction. Richard married Patricia Schroeder of Austin, Minnesota, on December 28, 1958. The couple was blessed with five sons, Michael, Joel, Samuel, Daniel, and Timothy. Together Richard and Patricia built and worked on their home, yard, gardens, and orchard. They were known for generous gifts of homemade items from the wood shop, gardens, and kitchen. Richard was a masterful woodworker and built many intricate pieces of furniture and lamps. He was also a school board member for nine years, a 4-H leader, and an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities; most notably as a Sunday School teacher and long-time president of the Administrative Council. Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Patricia; sons, Michael (Julie), Joel, Samuel (Holly), Daniel (Cynthia), and Timothy; foster son, Ed Shindler; two brothers, Robert and Lawrence; grandchildren, Brandon, Darrin, Christopher, Anthony, Chelsey, Noah, and Mason; step-granddaughters, Alyssa and Erika; step-grandson, Cory; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Edith; brother, Kenneth; sisters, Laura, Grace, Marietta, and Janet; grandson, Chayse; and great-grandson, Benton. The memorial service for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at St. Ansgar United Methodist Church. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Ansgar City Cemetery, St. Ansgar. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Ansgar Rescue or St. Ansgar United Methodist Church. Schroeder-Hoff Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is assisting the family with arrangements.
