Gary V. Kluender Sr., age 78, Osage, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage surrounded by loved ones. Gary was born May 25, 1946, in Thornton, Iowa, to Vernon and Anne (Eggena) Kluender. He attended Osage High School. Following high school, Gary served in the Army National Guard. He met Mary Anne Copp and the two were married in Reno, Nevada on July 22, 1978. Their union was blessed with one son, Gary Kluender Jr. The couple owned and operated the Orchard Tavern for many years, Gary also worked for White Farm Equipment, Grain Millers, and farmed. He lived for farming and working on all types of equipment. Gary loved spending the early years with his family and grandchildren. Gary is survived by his son, Gary Kluender Jr. (Tracy Funte); two grandchildren, Brett (Brittany) Kluender and Arianna Kluender; four great-grandchildren, Emmilie, Serenity, Easton, and Zayn; brother, Daryl Kluender; nieces and nephews, Sue Wilson, Katie Wood (Kluender), Brian Perrin, and Vernon Kluender. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ann, his wife, Mary Anne, and sister-in-law, Donna Eggena. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1921 317th St., Osage, Iowa. The visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Champion Funeral Home in Osage. Interment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home of Osage is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.schroederfuneralhomes.com.

I remember Gary when I was a little girl, he was good friends with my (step) father Don Swann. Gary was a good & kind man. Gary & Mary Ann were a good couple. RIP Gary
