Rochester, MN — Margaret Lee Moore, 78, passed away very peacefully on June 17, 2021, in her independent living apartment in the Charter House, after a brief illness with acute leukemia. Margaret, the beloved daughter, the pride and joy, of Robert Lee Moore and Hazel Nalia Zwerneman Moore, who preceded her in death, was born September 29,1942 at Kapiolani Maternity Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was also preceded in death by her closest cousin, Patsy Moore Neal of Nashville, TN, and many other much loved relatives and friends. Cherishing her memory is her loving cousin and caregiver, Anne Koschmeder, who Margaret dearly loved with all her heart. Her memory will also be forever special to Patsy's children and grandchildren in Nashville, TN; St.Louis, MO; Dunwoody, GA; New York, NY; and San Diego, CA. Other much loved survivors include first cousin, Laurel Kimber, Saint Ansgar, IA, and her children Sarah, Katie (Joe) and Amanda (Drew); cousins, Andy (Norma) Martin, Lynn (Gary) Moss, Minneapolis, MN, and a host of other loving relatives and friends who live on all coasts and in between to whom she sent greeting cards and called often. Margaret had amazing teachers and attended many schools, her first being Sacred Heart Private School in Menlo Park, California, where she made her First Communion. Dear to her heart was Sister Pometti with whom she corresponded until Sister passed away in 2012. Margaret was so excited that she got to visit the school and Sister Pometti in 2010 with her cousin, Anne. Margaret lived in many places including Honolulu, HI; Menlo Park, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Northfield, MN; Wayzata, MN; Mason City, IA; Northwood, IA; Saint Ansgar, IA; and Rochester, MN. She loved traveling to Hawaii, visiting friends, seeing her birthplace, Pearl Harbor, whale watching, and the beautiful sandy beaches. Other travels took her to Nashville, TN; Monterey, CA; St. Louis, MO; Omaha, NE; Chautauqua, NY; Niagara Falls, Canada and many national parks. She wanted to travel by train to California in 2010 and, that, she did, enjoying every moment. Margaret excelled as a Special Olympian Medalist, being awarded gold in swimming and broad jump events. She was very honored and proud to have met Eunice Kennedy Shriver, creator of the Special Olympics program and her daughter, Maria Shriver (she sat with them). She participated in events in Los Angeles, Mankato, and Minneapolis. To Margaret, family and friends were everything. She loved traveling and spending special moments with them, bringing great joy and treasuring every moment. She particularly enjoyed sending them cards and letters on holidays and special occasions, always highlighted with colorful stickers on her envelopes. Among the many wonderful things that we will remember Margaret for, one was her amazing memory of facts and details. Another, she was a valuable member of Charter House serving in many volunteer capacities, committees and events. She was particularly proud to be an acolyte for Vespers on Sunday afternoons and being a member of the Charter House Chimes. She loved the new fitness center, had a personal trainer, attended numerous exercise programs every week, and walked everyday. She loved the music programs, bingo, parties, and when dogs and cats came to visit. Margaret stood out at Charter House as one who always sought out others, welcoming them, and easily making friends. Margaret volunteered at her church, First Lutheran in Saint Ansgar, helping during Bible School week (the kids loved her) and participating in "do day". She was an inspiration, loved unconditionally, a positive role model, and an amazing human being who will be forever in our hearts. She was indeed one of a kind and God's special angel. Thank you to Pastor Rachael, Pastor Staley, Mayo Clinic staff, Mayo Hospice, Visiting Angels, Charter House staff and residents, and to friends and relatives for your care and support during Margaret's journey. Visitations will be held in Saint Ansgar, IA, Wednesday, July 7, 5:00-7:00 p.m., and Thursday, July 8, 9:30-10:30 a.m., in the Parish Center, First Lutheran Church. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., First Lutheran Church, with lunch and fellowship to follow. The burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Newburg Township Cemetery, Carpenter, Iowa. A celebration of life service will be held at the Charter House, Rochester, MN, at a later date to be determined.
