Jane D. Niess, 72, of Osage, IA, died Saturday, December 3, 2022, at her home in Osage Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, IA with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Jane Intorf was born March 16, 1950 to Walter Intorf and Alice (Wagner) Intorf in Osage, Iowa. She graduated from Osage High School in 1968. Jane married Mark Pederson on December 26, 1970. They had two children: Tonia and Matt. Jane worked for 12 years at Kratchmer and Kloberdanz in Osage, and was a partner in Body Business, specializing in fitness and nutrition. She worked at Principal Financial in Mason City for 9 years. On November 7, 1998 Jane married Tim Niess. First living in Maquoketa, and then Des Moines when Tim was promoted to work in the Iowa Farm Bureau home office. They bought a condemned Victorian house near Drake University in 2007 and completely restored it. Thus began their longest and most rewarding journey together. In 2008 they opened their home to guests as The 1900 Inn Bed and Breakfast. Their theme was A Soft Place to Land. Jane put her talents to work in the meticulous decorating of three bedroom suites, her love of gourmet cooking, and the anticipation of the needs and desires of their guests. For the next ten years, Jane and Tim were hosts to people from over 20 foreign countries, and a majority of the 50 states. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and they were honored in being named the number one rated Bed and Breakfast in Des Moines for nine straight years. In 2019 they retired and moved back to Osage. Jane loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, particularly during the holidays which often involved a specific theme for the kids. Jane is survived by her husband Tim; her daughter, Tonia Land and children Alice, Jack, and Maggie; son, Matt Pederson (Cara) and children Mary Jayne and Thomas; stepdaughters Jamie Kotewa (Erik) and children Mallory, Declan and Connor; Monica VanDeWalle (Brandon) and children Sofia, Marisol, Samuel, and Madison; Allison Bock, and children Casey, Chamberly, and Coral. Mother-in-law, Dorothy Niess, brothers-in-law Scott Niess (Julie), Brian Niess (Cari); sisters-in-law Marcia Intorf, Pat Niess, Julie Vulk (Greg), Jody Niess (Dale), Cindy Schissel (Randy), Christy Truxaw(Dick), and Laurie Gisleson (Bill). She was preceded in death by her parents Walt and Alice Intorf, her brother Steve Intorf, father-in-law Matt Niess, and brother-in-law Tom Niess . Champion Funeral Home, Osage, 641-732-3706
