Ernest Carroll Marsh, age 74 , of Saint Ansgar, IA passed away on Tuesday Dec 27, 2022 with his loving wife by his side. Ernest (Ernie) was born in Culpeper, VA on Oct. 29, 1948 to Kenneth Marsh and Betty Marsh. He was raised on a farm in Culpeper, Va. He was on the wrestling team in School, and graduated from Culpeper High School. In 1968 he joined the Navy and served until 1972. After the Navy, he went into the flour milling industry. Starting as a floor sweeper in Culpepper, he moved up, eventually becoming the Superintendent of the mill. Milling became Ernie’s lifelong career. It would take him to many locations and adventures. After Virginia, he moved to Albany, NY to run their mill. Next, a trip to the otherside of the world in Nigeria, Africa to help update and stabilize their operations. After Africa, Ernie returned stateside, running mills in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Hudson, NY. Ernie met Teresa in North Carolina, and married in 1987 in Kinderhook, NY. Additional adventures would take them to North Dakota and South Sioux City, NE, eventually settling down in St. Ansgar, IA. Ernie retired from Grain Millers in 2020, and he enjoyed fishing at the trout stream, spending time with his great friend Ray Blake listening to the short wave radio, and watching all the local birds including a local pileated woodpecker. Other enjoyments included online discussion groups on fishing and lawn maintenance, CNC woodworking, and publishing his own breadmaking handbook. His most recent enjoyment came when his brothers came up from Tennessee, and we would all go to the Halverson Park Campground and just sit, talk and eat. He treasured when John and Chris Dula (stepsons) would come up and visit. His retirement was truly enjoyable! Ernie is survived by his wife, Teresa, the love of his life, His loving stepsons, John (Sandy) Dula, two Grandsons, Caleb and Alex , Belton, Missouri; Chris Dula, Hickory, North Carolina; His sons, Chris and Mike, Virginia; Brothers, Wayne (Libby) Marsh, Tennessee ; Mike (Connie) Marsh, Tennessee; Sister Marsha ( James) Burke, Virgina.

I am very sorry for your loss. I work at Rourick Law Office and always admired how neat Ernie kept the yard. I loved your bull dogs too. Also once you gave me a hosta. Best of luck.
