Cleo Ann Rustad Kolpin was born May 27, 1931, she passed away at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center May 9, 2023, at the age of 91 years and 11 months. Cleo’s parents were Carroll and Lila (Ruehlow) Rustad. She was born in Otranto Township. Cleo attended 8 grades in Mona. She liked to hunt and fish and play softball. She graduated high school from St. Ansgar in 1949, in what is now South Square. She attended college at Iowa State University, graduating in 1953, with a major in Dietetics - Management. Cleo was part of the Promenaders Square Dance Club, traveling for competitions. After graduation she worked at the Nevada Hotel, and then accepted a position at the Memorial Union on the ISU campus. She managed and supervised staff and student meals, summer 4-H camp food service and special occasion reception meals and dinners. She retired after 37 years at the Union. Cleo met her husband Raymond Kolpin at the Memorial Union. They were married at Mona Lutheran July 2, 1967. They made their home in Ames for 50 years. During this time Cleo also rented houses to ISU college students, with a focus on kids from Mitchell and Worth counties. Cleo enjoyed getting to know these students. Cleo did most of the yard work to keep up these homes until into her 70s. Ray died in February 2019. Cleo moved to the Good Samaritan Center December 2019. Her parents preceded her in death in 1968 and 1992. Her brother, Robert Rustad died in 2021. Her infant niece Gloria Rustad died in 1953. A sister-in-law Anita Thorson Rustad and bother in-law Norman Kolpin. Left to mourn her death are; nieces Debra Freeman (Dan), Deanna Rustad, nephews; Dennis Rustad, Duane Rustad (Patti), David Rustad (Cindy) and 14 great nieces and nephews; Jon Heimer, Jamie Rustad, Mandi Graham, Aaron Rustad, Joe Freeman, Megan Rustad, Danyelle Freeman, Taylor Huinker, Tyce Rustad, Rachel Freeman, Bayley Anshutz, Klay Rustad, Violet Rustad, Opal Rustad and step great niece Jennifer Rodemaker, step great nephews Jeff Freeman and James Freeman. Additionally 20 great- great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 27, 2023 at 9:30 am at Mona Lutheran Church, Mona, IA. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorials will be given to Mona Lutheran Church; St. Ansgar Good Samaritan; Pleasant Hill Cemetery; and Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames, IA.
