Visitation with reviewal will be held Friday October 20, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Northwood, IA. Marcia Lynkay Hagen was born June 22,1944 in Mason City to Bennie and Alicia (Johnson) Hagen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood. She graduated with the Northwood Kensett High School class of 1962. She married Ronald Hulshizer of Meltonville on April 6, 1962 at First Lutheran Church in Northwood. As newlyweds, they began their life together on the family farm near Otranto where she was a devoted farmwife, raising their growing family. In her earlier days, she was a waitress at the Rootbeer Stand in Northwood. She and her good friend Beverly Klusmeier even waited tables at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake in their early 20’s. She worked as a cook at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin from 1982 until 2008. She will be remembered for her caring, loving demeanor that was always at the forefront of her work at Comforcare. In the late 90’s and early 00’s, she enjoyed caring for her mother Alicia in her later years. She now joins her dear friends Julia Dockum, Beverly Klusmeier, Frances Kravig, and Sue Dietrich in heaven. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and her cats on the farm. She was a talented cook, providing wholesome lunches for the guys on the farm. She will be remembered for her tasty homemade pancakes, scalloped corn and many other treats. She had the uncanny ability to get it just right every time without a measuring spoon/cup. Since their marriage, Marcia and Ron have been devoted members of the Otranto Community Church in Otranto. She was strong in her faith, had an impeccable memory for verses of many church hymns. She missed not more than a handful of Sunday church services her entire life. She enjoyed accompanying her son Ryan to organ lessons and many church services and recitals over the years. She and Ron were proud to have raised 6 children which gave way to 30 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren with 4 additional great-grandchildren currently incubating. She was very proud of her family and always eager to offer a hug, a tickle and a loving whisper in your ear. She was a great supporter of her children and grandchildren, attending countless sporting and musical events. To everyone’s surprise, she was proficient at operating her iPhone, enjoying keeping up with her grandkids on Snapchat. Marcia is survived by her: husband, Ronald of St.Ansgar; 5 children, Randy (Sharon) of Grafton, Julie (Mike) Smith of St.Ansgar, Steven (Angie) of St.Ansgar, Michael (Barb) of St.Ansgar, and Ryan (Katie) of Northwood; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren with 4 underway; nieces, Rochelle Oleson Apel, Roxanne Oleson Gordon, Debra Pangburn Wallukait, and Susan Pangburn Leinen; and a sister-in-law, Marlene K. Hulshizer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie Hagen and Alicia Hagen Bergo, her stepfather Orvin Bergo, her stepmother Mildred Hagen, her in-laws Fritz and Clara Hulshizer, her daughter, Teri Hulshizer Bishop, her sisters, Sharrell Pangburn Downing and Sandra Oleson Nowlin, her nieces Diane Pangburn, Lori Pangburn Williams, her nephews, Raymond “Babe” Oleson, William Pangburn Jr., Gary Pangburn, her brothers in law Gerald Hulshizer, Eugene Hulshizer and Russell Hulshizer and her sister in law, Marlene C. Ryan & Hulshizer Family- So sorry for your loss. I remember meeting Marcia and Ryan on college move-in day back in 2002. I always knew I would get a hug from Marcia whenever I saw her and Ron. She was a kind and generous person.

Marcia was the closest cousin in age to me. We had so many cousins since her dad and my mother came from a family of 12 children and we have lost a lot of them already. Marcia is the last of 3 sisters and I lost my only sibling , Dave, last year. We spent several summers together inRockford, Illinois after her mom and Dad divorced and I was already going there as my dads only brother from Norway lived there. Sandra and Dave came one year with us, so I have a lot of fond memories about our tiime there. My mom stayed in touch with all the family as she spent summers in Albert Lea andwas the last of the 12 children to die. We always visited Alicia in the nursing home and Marcia was always there also. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it up there this summer to see her. I talked to her just before the 4th of July and she sounded great and happy about going to the parade! All my love to Ron and her family-know she was a fantastic mother! Love,Bonnie
