On the morning of February 3, 2025, Olive Esma Schulz peacefully passed away in her home in the arms of her mom, and surrounded by her dad, brother, Greer and sister, Willow. Olive was born June 1, 2023, to parents, Chaley and Kayley Schulz, and graced this world for just 20 short months. Born with lissencephaly and diagnosed at just four months old, we knew her life was both precious and fragile. To have known Olive is to love her. Better known sometimes as Olive bug, Chuggers, Huggers, Hug-a-bug, Chugger Buggers, Chugga Boo Boo, or Honey Bunches. She loved life’s simple things like pretty lights and good music. The more silly the sounds, the better. Her music player could turn any bad day into a good one without fail, even in her final moments. Although Olive’s time on this earth was short, she left more of an impact than many do in a lifetime. Life in its purest form existed within this girl. She radiated joy and unconditional love. She taught us to love deeper and live fuller, to rise to any occasion, to always seek to find good in all things. Life alongside Olive was always on her terms, as was her passing. She led the way, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. If you ask her brother Greer, Olive was a lefty like him and her favorite color was of course, olive green. If you ask her sister Willow, Olive had the most beautiful eyes and hair. Olive will forever be remembered by her curly hair, wild and free – just as she is now. Olive is survived by her loving parents, Chaley and Kayley Schulz; brother, Greer; sister, Willow; grandparents, Brian and Tori Steinberg, and Tim and Jodie Schulz; great-grandparents, Fred and Karen Steinberg, Dean and Barb Feldt, Galen Schulz, Vern Miller, and Clara Hansen; great-great-grandma, Ellen Bork; aunts, uncles, and cousins, Lacey and Lonnie Even and their children, Piper, Paizlee, Echo, and Lowden, Palmer and Molly Schulz and their children, Hudson and Tinley, Greg and Blair Steinberg and their children, Quinn, Arlo, and Sullivan, and Riley Steinberg and Grady Schulz. She was preceded in death by her aunt, Echo Schulz; and her great-grandma, Audrey Schulz. Olive’s family invites you to celebrate her life at an open house at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. We ask that you dress comfortably, casual, and colorful just like Olive loved to. Families, please bring your children as we remember what is most important in life. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, contributions to “Olive’s Legacy Fund” would be appreciated so that Olive’s family may continue to spread her joy by positively impacting the lives of others.
