Sheila Rae Barrett age 59, died unexpectedly in the Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas December 28, 2023. The youngest daughter of Stella (O’Rourke) Alaniz and Thomas Barrett, she was born in Osage, Iowa January 28, 1964. Sheila grew up in Mitchell, Iowa, attended the Mitchell Elementary School and Osage High School. She graduated from high school in Brownsville, Texas at the James Pace High School in 1981. Sheila moved with her mother to Texas into the Rio Grande Valley in 1980. After she graduated from high school she worked in the bar and restaurant business for many years. In 2000, she was accepted into nursing school and graduated from Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, TX as an LVN. After graduation, she worked at local hospitals and nursing homes. She however, spent the majority of her career specializing in geriatric nursing and working at adult daycares. Sheila was an avid pool player, a great storyteller where she was usually the main character, a lover of family and a maker of lifelong friends. She was a mother figure to her nephews and a caregiver to many including her mother for over 20 years. She is survived by her only daughter Josie Makayla Barrett, her brothers, Michael, (Janis) of Mesa, AZ, Danny of Brownsville, TX and sister Peggy House of San Benito, TX, nieces, Esther Murphy, Emily Gray, nephews Ethan Barrett, Tommy Vaughn, Quinte Smith and many cousins and close friends. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, sister Toni, brother Patrick, brother-in-law Richard House, cousins and aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa. Visitation will take place two hours before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell, Iowa following services. Schroeder Funeral Homes, Osage, 641-732-3706

We were very sad to hear about the passing of Sheila. We loved her visits with our family and fantastic sense of humor. We will miss her greatly. She was a wonderful, giving lady.
