Irene Clara Mullenbach passed away surrounded by her family on January 20, 2024. She was born June 10, 1933 in New Haven to the late Clem and Clara Johanns. She graduated from Osage High School in 1951. Irene was united in marriage to Norbert Mullenbach on April 11, 1953 and they spent almost 50 years together before Norbert’s passing in 2002. Norbert and Irene made their home on the family farm where Irene was a beloved wife and homemaker, sharing her love for cooking and baking with all who entered their home. Her grandchildren will always fondly remember her homemade buns at every holiday and family gathering, along with her cinnamon rolls and cookies. Irene was a gifted quilter and enjoyed her time on her bowling league that spanned over decades. She also enjoyed her many outings with the “Birthday Group.” Irene was a faithful servant of God. She was an active member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville and later in life the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Irene’s life was marked by countless acts of service that reflected her love and concern for family, friends, and her greater community. Irene is survived by her five children, Mike (Linda) Mullenbach, Mark (Carol) Mullenbach, Mary Mullenbach, Steve (Brenda) Mullenbach, and Lisa Wall (Travis Johnson). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Mullenbach, Marie LaValley, Michael Leonard, Erik Mullenbach, Steven Mullenbach, Allen Mullenbach, Tony Mullenbach, Tyler Mullenbach, Britney Mullenbach, Mitchell Roe, Emma McNamee, and Thomas Wall along with several great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norbert, a daughter, Ann Marie, a great-granddaughter, Bella Mullenbach, her parents and her eight siblings, Lawrence, Raymond, Clem, Clair, Mary, Grace, Gertie, and Agnes. The family would like to thank the Faith Lutheran Home and North Iowa Hospice for the loving care they provided in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family for donation to a charity of their choice. Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville from 5:00 – 7:00. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Visitation Catholic Church with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Mike, Mark, Mary, Steve, Lisa, & Families, I am so sorry I am unable to attend Irene's funeral this morning. Wanda was planning to pick me up this morning, but was unable to do it. The Pringnitz family enjoyed having the Mullenbach family living by us for so many years. I got to talk to Irene a few times while I was over to Faith Home to play Bingo. She always knew me and called me by name. My deepest sympathy to all of you. My thoughts and prayers have been with you. Love, Eunice Pringnitz

I am truly sorry for your loss. I remember Irene as a sweet wonderful woman much like my mother was. I just wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you. The times we spent as children are precious to me and Carol and Mark you are both such good friends. I will send extra prayers for you. I love you all.

Your mom & dad sure were great friends with my parents. I remember on the folk's 25 wedding anniversary when the 500 card group came over to the house dressed up for a shotgun wedding. It's amazing that Iowa farmers could be so silly and have so much fun. I know you didn't have any bees but a gift of one hive of honey bees has been donated to Heifer International in her memory.
