Gary Joseph Wagner, 65, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, April 1, 2024, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at Schroeder Funeral Homes, St. Ansgar on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. The family will meet people one hour prior to the service. Gary was born on October 29, 1958, in Osage, Iowa to Eugene and Donna (Huemann) Wagner. Gary graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1977. He went on to work for the Canadian Pacific Railroad for 38 years, primarily as a track inspector. In 1992, Gary married Valerie Dierks of Akron, Iowa. From this union, two children were born, Jared and Benjamin Wagner. This family was the love of his life. Gary was known for his computer knowledge, always willing to lend a hand to those not as well versed. As well, Gary had a major interest in hunting and wildlife. Integrity, sense of humor/fun and caring for others defined Gary. Gary is survived by his: wife, Valerie; sons, Jared Wagner and Benjamin Wagner; siblings, Russ (Julie) Wagner, Karen (Del) Gast, Pat (Deanne) Wagner, Kristie (John) Greenstreet; sister-in-law, Nancy Wagner; mother and father-in-law, Marie and Myron Dierks; sisters-in-law, Vicky Smith and Myra Dierks; brother-in-law David (Gail) Dierks; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Michael and Paul Anthony who died as an infant and brother-in-law, Mike Smith.
