Northwood – Craig Arthur Hanson, 88 of Northwood passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 PM followed by services starting at 2:30 PM on Sunday, August 25th at Deer Creek Lutheran Church located at 4598 Zinnia Ave, St Ansgar, IA. Burial will immediately follow the services at the Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Craig was born July 21, 1936, in Carpenter, IA, the son of Carl and Thelma Hanson. Craig graduated from Carpenter High School and proudly served our country in the Army from 1958 to 1960. On April 11, 1964, Craig was united in marriage with Marilyn Heydt at the Zion United Methodist Church in Sargeant, MN. Craig and Marilyn farmed while raising four children in rural Worth County and later moved to Northwood to finish their careers and enjoy retirement. After farming Craig was a dedicated and devoted employee of Carroll George/ACT and the Northwood Country Club. Craig was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend! He enjoyed golfing, watching and cheering on the MN Twins and Vikings and spending time with family. Craig was an active member of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church. Craig is survived by his four children Todd Hanson of San Francisco, CA, Cheryl (Kent) Nitcher of Northwood, IA, Joyce (Mike) Frohwein of Waukee, IA and Troy (Sherie) Hanson of Allenton, WI; grandchildren Marissa Nitcher, Dylan (Tyler) Nitcher, Brittany (Tom) Johnson, Thomas Frohwein, Elizabeth Frohwein and great grandchildren Aubree, Carter, Kaylen, Kolt and Cooper; brothers Wayne Hanson and Luther Hanson; sisters Sharon (Robert) Gordon and Darlene Meling; sister-in-law Gwen Hanson, brother-in-law Richard (Jane) Heydt; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Craig is preceded in death by his wife, parents Carl and Thelma Hanson, parents-in-law Ed and Ann Heydt, brother Harvey Hanson, brothers-in-law Raymond Heydt and David Schmidt, sisters-in-law LeAnn Heydt, Deloris Schmidt, Mavis Hanson and Illa Hanson, niece Kathryn (Hanson) Mills, and great nephew Alex Hanson.
