August 18, 1933 - November 23, 2024
Charlotte Rose Cobeen, age 91, a resident of Good Samaritan Society – Saint Ansgar joined her husband and family in heaven on November 23, 2024. Charlotte was born at home on August 18, 1933, to Manley Anderson and Olive (Moretz) Anderson. She was the last of six daughters. Later, her parents were blessed with one son, Millard. She lived most of her life in Manly, Iowa. She was married to Ivan D. Hurd, Sr., and to that union were born two children, Ivan D. Hurd, Jr. and Lori Elizabeth Patterson. On December 19, 1969, she was married to Robert L. Cobeen in Chicago, Illinois. Together they resided on Robert’s family acreage east of Manly, Iowa, where Charlotte worked at Manly State Bank for 33 years. During their time together, they were able to travel to Europe and she shared many fond memories of that trip. Charlotte resided at that acreage until she later moved to Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Among her many passions was that of making rugs on her loom. She spent hours cutting strips from old, donated clothes to make the rugs. She was well known throughout the area as “the rug lady.” Charlotte also made several quilts and gave them to family members. They will be cherished. She also loved gardening and grew the most delicious tomatoes on the Blooming Prairie farm. In 2010, she moved to Saint Ansgar, Iowa, to be closer to her family. She enjoyed living there with her two fury friends, her dog, Olive, and her cat, Dolly. One of her greatest enjoyments was being able to go to her favorite eatery in Grafton with her sister, Norma. She made numerous friends and enjoyed a happy and fruitful life in St. Ansgar until her health began to deteriorate. She moved into assisted living in March 2022 at Kentucky Ridge in Mason City, Iowa, to be closer to her son. She was able to take her beloved companion, Dolly, to that facility. However, as her health continued its downward spiral, it was necessary for her to move to a skilled nursing facility and she returned to St. Ansgar in September of 2022, where she resided at the Good Samaritan Society. Unfortunately, she was not able to bring Dolly with her. Her greatest love at the care facility was getting to play Bingo every Thursday afternoon. You dare not go to visit her on that day unless it was in the morning because she would not miss that activity. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Cobeen; daughter, Lori E. Patterson; parents, Manley and Olive Anderson; stepdaughter, Terry Hooker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dealda (Obert) Stromley, Velma (Donald) Roberts, Arlene (Leo) Martie, Joy (LaVern) Warner, and Norma (Glen) Streich; niece, Diane (Martie) Hanson; and nephew, Ron Roberts. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Ivan Jr., (Rhonda) Hurd; son-in-law, Rod Patterson; stepdaughters, Kathryn (Jerry) Laney and Kathy (Dave) Martin; brother, Millard (Cynthia) Anderson; grandchildren, Ashlee (Josh) Madole, Ivan D. Hurd, III, Carter (Kelly) Patterson, Taylor (Abbey) Patterson; great grandchildren, Emersyn Brown, Alexander J. Madole, Asher Patterson, and Eva Patterson; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Charlotte will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN, next to her husband. Schroeder-Hoff Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is assisting the family with arrangements.
